Discussants: Kathy Reicker, LCSW (Oregon Psychoanalytic Institute) and
Vic Sedlak, PhD ( British Psychoanalytical Society)
Overview:
Patients with behavioral inhibitions may present with rigid defenses that seem analytically impenetrable. This webinar offers psychoanalytic frameworks to inform effective interventions that promote developmental progress and intrapsychic change. An in-depth case presentation will be complemented with conceptual lenses presented by two discussants, and there will be opportunity for audience participation and group dialogue.
Objectives:
- Explain the defense of inhibition from an ego psychological perspective and a contemporary object relations perspective.
- Apply two theoretical understandings of sexual inhibition to effective interpretive strategies for working through this defensive structure.
- Discuss the relationship between sexual inhibition and superego functioning, from both an ego psychological perspective and a contemporary object relational perspective.https://aape-online.org/november-16-2025-webinar-event/
