About the presenter:
Joshua Ehrlich, Ph.D. has a full-time practice in Ann Arbor, MI, where he sees adolescents and couples in therapy and adults in therapy and analysis. He's on the Faculty at MPI and supervises psychiatry residents at Michigan Medicine. A highly regarded teacher, Dr. Ehrlich has twice won teaching awards from the MPI candidates. His first book, Divorce and Loss, published in 2014, was described in a review in JAPA as "invaluable to a broad and disparate range of audiences." Dr. Ehrlich has taught and lectured on male sexuality for the last 20 years, including a presentation at PINE in January 2022. He is currently completing a book on this topic.
Practice Gap/Need and Course Description:
This presentation is designed for mental health professionals who provide psychotherapy and psychoanalysis to straight men. It will explore the layered meanings of straight men's sexual fantasies and trace them through their consensual and non-consensual expressions. It will offer detailed explanations for how and why men enact their fantasies, which has direct connection to clinical practice. The educational method will include review of relevant literature and detailed clinical vignettes from the presenter's practice.
After attending this presentation, participants will be able to:
1. Explain why the developmental roots of men's sexual fantasies make sexual fantasies so compelling and enduring.
2. Explain how men actualize their sexual fantasies in consensual and non-consensual ways.
