LECTURE DESCRIPTION

Description:  This presentation uniquely combines clinical expertise with personal experience. Stephen J. Dietrich, JD, overcame neglect and abuse in childhood to become a successful law firm partner, husband, and father. Despite his achievements, the fear and anxiety from his past continued to affect his emotional well-being. In his 2024 book, Fear Dynamics, Stephen shares his transformative journey toward healing and emotional freedom. Complementing his story, psychologist Lupe-Rebeka Samaniego, PhD will provide clinical insights on empirically supported techniques that enhance emotional regulation, reduce addictive tendencies, and emphasize the therapeutic relationship as a 'safe container' for recovery and growth.

CME Objectives:

  1. Examine the use of empirically validated tools to enhance emotional regulation and decrease addictive potential within a psychoanalytic framework.

  2. Apply a deeper understanding of 'safe container' within the therapeutic relationship.
