    Dear Colleagues,

Come study with us at the International Psychotherapy Institute (IPI) November 13-15, 2020, when we will study together online in large and small groups to deepen our understanding of the psychoanalytic dimensions of suicide towards enhancing our ways of preventing, intervening and responding to loss.

    Title

Psychoanalytic Dimensions of Suicide: psychoanalytic approaches to working with suicide - prevention, intervention, understanding and responding to loss

    Keynote Speaker

    Jane G. Tillman, PhD, ABPP

    Conference Description

Understanding the epidemiology of suicide, risk and protective factors, treatment approaches to the suicidal patient, and how survivors of suicide loss may be affected are all essential for clinicians. The rate of suicide in the USA has increased 33% since 1999. Psychoanalytic understanding of the suicidal process in the developmental, interpersonal, affective, defensive, and object relations spheres may help clinicians to work more effectively with suicidal patients leading to deeper engagement and more thorough assessment of the dynamics underlying suicide. The lectures will include attention to states of mind preceding near lethal suicide attempts, the role of psychic pain in suicide, suicide in vulnerable populations, the intergenerational transmission of suicide, and the effect of patient suicide on clinicians.

    Dates

Fri-Sun, November 13 – 15, 2020. Options to attend only Sat, November 14, either morning or all day

    Location

Live real-time videoconference using HIPAA-compliant Zoom

    CME/CE

Full weekend participation provides 14.5 CME/CE continuing education credits

    Learning format at IPI

The conference will include didactic presentations with large group discussion, a clinical case presentation and discussion, and small group discussions using IPI's Group Affective Learning Model-an educational format derived from object relations theory that incorporates ideas from group analysis, neural development, systems theory, chaos theory, and affect regulation. Each participant will meet in small groups that combine didactic material and experience through group process to integrate theory and technique, cognitive and affective elements, and intrapsychic and interpersonal dimensions.

We hope to see you there! See below and attached for additional information including a video by Dr. Tillman. Thank you very much.

    Stay safe,

    Caroline M. Sehon, MD

    IPI Director
